We care deeply about where our ingredients come from, and expect the same from farmers and our suppliers.
As a dairy Company, milk is our primary ingredient and we care deeply about the way it is produced. High quality dairy products begin with high quality milk from healthy and well cared-for animals. We are committed to supporting initiatives and programs that promote communication, awareness and training opportunities for dairy production welfare issues.
Education is a key part of our approach to responsible sourcing. As such, we support initiatives and programs that promote communication, awareness and training opportunities for dairy production welfare issues.
Our position as a global leader in dairy processing comes with responsibility, and we use it to promote animal care and appropriate dairy cattle and goat handling practices.
We have a Zero Tolerance Policy for any act of animal cruelty. We ensure compliance with our animal care standards through industry regulations and Codes of Practice, routine supplier management practices, and awareness and training programs. We have established a clear protocol to work with suppliers and authorities to effectively deal with situations where a breach of the Animal Welfare Policy is suspected.
We expect all milk producers to comply with recognized standards validated by third-party animal welfare audit. On the issue of pain relief, we expect our suppliers to eliminate or modify routine Management Practices that are unnecessary or cause pain. These include the practice of tail docking cattle and the use of pain control when dehorning or disbudding cattle. We expect our suppliers to implement appropriate Animal Care Awareness and Training programs including a mandatory animal care Code of Conduct that is reviewed annually.
We are committed to working and engaging with farmers and our suppliers to achieve our Promise and we will continue to look for opportunities to strengthen our performance throughout our supply chain.
Beyond animal care, we aim to promote responsible business practices by working with our suppliers across the value chain and engaging them to achieve our objectives. We expect our suppliers to act in a manner consistent with our Code of Ethics and to adhere to principles that ensure compliance with laws. This includes a prohibition against engaging in bribes and other forms of corruption, ensuring compliance with antitrust Laws and promoting fair competition. We also hold our suppliers to the same standards of health and safety in the workplace.
